It is expected that MS Dhoni’s final IPL season would occur in 2024:

The legendary captain of the Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni, will captain his team in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for the fifteenth season. Notably, having captained CSK to five IPL championships, Dhoni is tied for the most successful captain in IPL history. Ever since Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020, there have been many discussions regarding his retirement from the Indian Premier League as well.

But the 42-year-old has come back every year and motivated his team to win titles in 2021 and 2023. It is anticipated that the wicketkeeper-batter would ultimately put up his boots in the upcoming season, and rumors about CSK’s next captain have started. The CEO of CSK, Kasi Viswanathan, recently disclosed the team’s intentions regarding Dhoni’s replacement. Viswanath went on to say that N Srinivasan, the owner of CSK, has given the captain and coach the freedom to choose Dhoni’s successor as captain.

“In internal talks, Srinivasan has stated as much. We won’t discuss the selection of the captain and vice-captain. Let the captain and the coach make that decision. ‘The captain and the coach will decide and give us a command, till then let’s all keep quiet,’ he stated in a YouTube interview with S Badrinath, which Viswanathan conducted.

Speaking ahead of time, Viswanathan also disclosed Dhoni’s intentions for each season and said that the captain’s main priority is always winning league games.

“Every season, MS Dhoni advises us to focus first on league games. “We aim to make it to the knockout stage,” Viswanathan continued.

In 2023, MS Dhoni achieved his highest-ever season strike rate:

Notably, Dhoni promised his supporters at the post-match presentation of the previous year’s championship that he would play again the following year in appreciation for their support throughout the whole Indian cricket season. The 2023 edition saw the wicketkeeper batsman persist through a knee injury and seem at his vintage best, batting at a strike rate of 182.46, his highest in a single season. To finish off his career in style, the Ranchi-born cricket player will be eager to have another amazing season as a batsman as well as captain.
