At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Honor is announcing the global availability of its latest flagship device, the Magic 6 Pro, one and a half months after it made its debut in China. The new Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR, a limited edition of the Magic V2 foldable with improved specifications and a design centered around the German automaker, has also been priced by the firm.

The Porsche Design Magic V2 RSR will sell for €2,699 (£2,349.99, approximately $2,625) with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage and ship on March 18. The Magic 6 Pro, on the other hand, is scheduled to retail for €1,299 (£1,099.99, approximately $1,407) with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage and be available from March 1st. It’s likely that neither will be formally available in the US, but expect both to be offered in European markets.

Naturally, a major selling point of Honor’s Magic 6 Pro pitch is its AI-powered features, given that the year is 2024. To begin with, Honor promises to eventually enable the AI-powered eye-tracking function that it hinted at during Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit in the previous year. The feature, which Honor refers to as its “Magic Capsule,” is supposed to be able to recognize when you’re viewing alerts on the Dynamic Island-style interface at the top of the screen and launch the appropriate app without requiring you to physically tap on it. I know I’ll be watching closely to see how Honor determines when to stop being casual and start making a deliberate eye contact.

Additional AI-powered capabilities include “Magic Portal,” which links to the relevant calendar app or maps automatically when specifics like events or addresses are mentioned in your communications. Additionally, Honor claims to be working on an AI-powered application that will use your photographs and a text prompt to automatically create a video. Honor claims this tool will be processed on-device via MagicLM technology. (Yes, the business still thinks highly of its “Magic” branding.)

Except from its AI-powered features, this flagship phone is much like any other. Operating on Qualcomm’s most recent Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, it boasts a capacious 5,600mAh battery that can receive rapid charging at a maximum of 80W via a cable or 66W through wireless means. Its 6.8-inch 120Hz OLED display boasts a resolution of 2800 x 1280 and a maximum brightness of 5,000 nits, however normal use will likely result in a maximum brightness closer to 1,800 nits.

Three cameras are integrated within the phone’s large circular camera bump on the rear. Its 50-megapixel primary camera features a variable aperture that allows you to adjust the depth of field in your photos from f/1.4 to f/2.0. A 180-megapixel periscope with a 2.5x optical zoom and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera accompany that. The IP68 rating for dust and water resistance applies to the entire device, which is the greatest level of protection commonly found on popular phones.

Honor is launching the Magic 6 Pro in international markets concurrently with the release of the Magic V2 foldable, which I tested back in January, in a Porsche-themed edition. In addition to having the words “Porsche Design” printed on the back and a camera bump design meant to mimic the appearance of the German sports car, the Porsche phone boasts more robust glass on its external display, 1TB of onboard storage instead of 512GB, and a stylus in the box. Honor hasn’t yet released any pictures of the Magic 6’s Porsche-themed variant, which is scheduled to launch in March.

The Porsche Design Honor Magic V2 RSR is identical to the Magic V2, its predecessor, except from that aspect. Thanks in part to its titanium hinge structure, it retains the same light and thin design, weighing in at 234 grams and measuring just 9.9mm thick when folded (not counting the camera bump). The two devices have the same 50-megapixel primary camera, 50-megapixel ultrawide, and 20-megapixel telephoto camera configurations.

Regretfully, because the Magic V2 was first released in China back in July 2023, the Porsche edition of the phone still employs the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset from the previous year, even if it is a recently released model.
