MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Action News 5 has received a number of reports of a widespread Verizon outage that has affected several Mid-South cities.

A delegate from Verizon says the blackout is because of a break in an optical fiber:

“Fiber cuts in your space are causing a disturbance in help for clients in and around the area. Our engineers are attempting to repair the fiber and restore service. At this time, we do not have an estimated time for service restoration. To ensure that they can make and receive calls until service is restored, affected customers should enable wifi calling.
