Over at a presentation in Tokyo, Carl Pei’s Nothing unveiled two brand-new wireless earphones. Referred to as an enhancement of its previous model, the Ear (2), it calls the Ear, the most costly of the two, with beginning costs at $149 and £129. With a design reminiscent of the previous edition, the Ear maintains the clear style of the brand. In contrast to its predecessor, it boasts a twin chamber design and a new bespoke 11 mm dynamic driver, which enable it to produce sounds with greater clarity.

Additionally, a new intelligent active noise cancellation (ANC) algorithm is included, which can detect any noise leaking between the earbuds and the ear canal and adjust the amount of noise cancellation. Furthermore, it has the ability to automatically adjust the amount of noise cancellation—high, medium, or low—depending on the user’s surroundings. Nothing indicates that the model’s 45 dB noise canceling is nearly twice as effective as the Ear (2).

The Ears were likewise made with a longer battery life in mind. With its charging case, it can run for up to forty-and-a-half hours on a full charge, or eight and a half hours of continuous playback. The model also includes a redesigned microphone that reduces interference and blockage, compatibility for the LDAC and LHDC 5.0 codecs for high-definition Bluetooth streaming, and a fast switcher between connected devices.

Between the two new arrivals, the Ear (a) is the more entertaining and reasonably priced variant. It’s the first Nothing model that comes in colors other than black or white, but both options are still available. The non-transparent components and case of one version are vibrant egg yolk yellow. It has the same ANC technology as the Ear, with prices starting at $99 and £99, but it also has the brand’s new intelligent ANC algorithm, which can detect sound leaks. With its charging case, it even purportedly boasts an even longer battery life, with up to 42.5 hours of audio playback possible after a full charge.

Nothing’s website is currently accepting preorders for Ear and Ear (a). On April 22, they will go up for general sale and begin to be distributed to purchasers.
