The Watch 2 has been formally announced by Xiaomi. The new wearable looks a lot like the Galaxy Watch series, but it’s not quite the same because it claims to have a battery life of up to 65 hours on a single charge.

The Wear OS-powered Xiaomi Watch 2 faces competition from a few worthy products. It shares a lot of design similarities with the Galaxy Watch line. The band connections have the same profile as those on the Galaxy Watch 6, and the two buttons on the right side are comparable in size and design. The Pixel Watch, which sports many of the same features and runs Wear OS 4 stock, is another rival that springs to mind. Although the Watch 2 Pro was released by Xiaomi last year, this appears to be a more cost-effective choice.

The Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 SoC, which was created using a 4nm technology, powers the Xiaomi Watch 2 internally. Along with 32GB of internal storage for music and other tiny media, that is matched with 2GB of RAM. Numerous smartwatches, including ones with optical heart rate sensors, are powered by this configuration for a variety of sensors. It monitors blood oxygen levels in addition to heart rate. The Watch 2 uses that to determine stress levels as well. Though nothing new, it’s still good to see.

The Xiaomi Watch 2’s battery life is what makes it noteworthy. The Watch 2 is expected to last up to 65 hours on a single charge, far longer than the renowned 30-hour battery life of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Like the TicWatch Pro 5 with its two distinct screen kinds, it doesn’t appear that there are any techniques involved in making this work.

The inside cell appears to be a straightforward 495mAh battery. It will be interesting to observe how it is used in actual situations. If it comes close to 65 hours and has many of the same capabilities as premium smartwatches, that’s going to be quite the accomplishment.

The pricing of the Xiaomi Watch 2 is lower than that of the Pixel Watch 2 and the Galaxy Watch series. The base model of the Watch 2, which costs €199, may make a great wristwatch.
