There are rumors that Sony is developing a PlayStation 5 “Pro” model with an October release date. A PS5 Pro with upgraded hardware capabilities is expected to be introduced before to the 2025 release of Grand Theft Auto 6. This was said by industry analysts last month. These days, a fresh report has revealed the upcoming console’s specs. According to the leaks, the PS5 Pro would have enhanced graphical performance along with increases in system memory and CPU clock speed.

According to Insider Gaming, the PS5 Pro’s system memory (576 GB/s) will have a 28% increase in bandwidth gain and be more efficient than the PS5’s (448 GB/s). The ‘Pro’ version of the console will reportedly feature the same eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU as the PS5, but will come with a ‘High CPU Frequency Mode,’ hitting clock speeds of up to 3.85GHz — a 10 percent rise over PS5’s 3.5Ghz.

The research stated that when the CPU is operating in High CPU Frequency Mode, the GPU will experience a downclock of approximately 1.5%, leading to a decrease in GPU performance of approximately 1%.

The ACV in the PlayStation 5 Pro “runs at a higher clock speed over the standard PlayStation 5, resulting in the ACM library having 35 percent more performance,” according to new leaks that also hint to audio improvements for the PS5 Pro.

According to the source, the PS5 Pro would also include 1TB of storage and a detachable disc drive, just like the more compact PS5.

Improvements to the PS5 Pro’s GPU were also confirmed to be near, according to docs stolen from the PlayStation developer portal last week. The next system would have “2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases)” and render 45 percent faster than the PS5. Additionally, it was believed that the PS5 Pro will have up to three times the computational capability of the PS5, with 33.5 teraflops of single-precision compute power as opposed to 10.28 teraflops for the PS5. To put things in perspective, the Xbox Series X boasts 12 teraflops of processing power and is billed as the most powerful console of the current generation.

Though the PS4 Pro was introduced by Sony about three years after the original PS4 was released in November 2013, the firm has not yet disclosed plans for a “Pro” version of the PS5. Thus, it is more likely than not that a PS5 Pro will be released. In November of last year, Sony did introduce a lighter and slimmer PS5 model with a detachable disc drive and a little bit more internal storage. The PS5 slim keeps the same price, graphics capabilities, and computing power as the original console.

Following the announcement during the company’s results call that it would miss the PS5 sales target for the fiscal year 2023, industry analysts stated last month that Sony was preparing the PS5 Pro for debut in the second half of 2024 to increase console sales. Analysts predict that Sony plans to provide an improved system in time for the 2025 release of Grand Theft Auto 6, a game developed by Rockstar Games. Since its release in November 2020, the PS5 has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.
