At the Chicago Auto Show earlier this week, Hyundai introduced an EV subscription service in the United States.

The program, which is called Evolve+, was created by Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai Capital America with the intention of giving customers who want to drive the most recent EVs from the brand without having to make a purchase or sign a lease for a longer period of time access to affordability and flexibility.

Evolve+ is a monthly subscription service that covers insurance, maintenance, registration, 1,000 miles (1,610 kilometers), and roadside assistance for $699 per month for a Kona Electric and $899 per month for an Ioniq 5.

The subscriber is not obligated to sign a long-term contract and can cancel at any time during the 28-day subscription period. According to Hyundai, this is a significant distinction from other subscription services, which require customers to commit to a minimum term of three to five months.

Drivers must be at least 25 years old, have a credit score of 650 or higher, and have a clean driving record for at least three years to be eligible for the service.

Evolve+ is currently available at select Hyundai dealerships in seven cities and six states; however, additional dealerships will be added before the end of the year. The Hyundai Evolve+ app allows customers to locate nearby dealers.

Hyundai argues that customers who might need a car for a short time will like its EV subscription service. This includes people who need a car in their winter home, college students who are home for the summer, workers who are on remote assignments, and many other similar scenarios.

More importantly, customers will be able to test drive an electric vehicle before purchasing or leasing one thanks to the service.
