Samsung has never been afraid to test out novel and audacious smartphone concepts, and the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this year was no exception. The Cling Band, a flexible smartphone design that changes into a wearable smartwatch, garnered attention for the company.

The Cling Band: Smartwatch and Smartphone Together

CNET claims that Samsung Display’s “Cling Band” design is a novel gadget with a bendable OLED screen that functions as a smartwatch and a standard smartphone. It displays a svelte design with a rear camera and bezel-less screen in expanded mode, much like a standard smartphone.

But it’s the bendable part that really draws the interest in this design. A heart rate monitor is visible on the back of the Cling Band when it forms a “C” shape. It can measure your health data when worn on the wrist, just like a dedicated smartwatch. Although this idea is still in its infancy, it already shows how amazing Samsung’s flexible screen technology can be.

Not just Samsung is investigating wearable phone ideas. A similar idea was also unveiled by Motorola at MWC, illustrating the growing trend of combining smartwatches and smartphones. It’s still unclear, though, how well-liked this idea will go over with customers.

Small Screens, Vast Opportunities

Samsung has bigger plans for the future than just bending phones. Additionally, they displayed tiny, circular OLED screens incorporated into commonplace items like earbud charging cases and wireless headphones.

This creative strategy creates a plethora of opportunities for convenient and seamless connectivity. Given how quickly technology is developing, it will be interesting to watch how these ideas develop and influence wearable technology in the future.
