In order to accelerate the adoption of its file transfer technology, which will be available on more PCs in 2024, Google has collaborated with Samsung.

Following the WearOS platform, Google and Samsung have partnered once more, but this time it’s for an Android file transfer utility. During CES 2024, Google unveiled the redesigned Nearby Share function, which is now called Quick Share.

Although Nearby Share has served its function over the previous few years, Quick Share is a better term. It appears that the company is changing its name in line with the feature. We weren’t sure why this was happening for a few weeks, but switching to Quick makes sense because it works with Samsung’s own file transfer tool, which was unveiled in 2020.

It will be exciting for many people who use an Android phone and a Windows PC because Google has been opening up the feature to Windows PCs. With Quick Share, that compatibility is likely to get further boost with more brands signing up for the file transfer tool on the PCs who can get it pre-installed in the near future.

Apart from its name, Quick Share performs the same function as Nearby Share. The device and contact that need to receive the file can be chosen. You can limit who can see your phone to certain individuals or to everyone. For many years, Android file transfers were dependent on Bluetooth; however, Nearby Share was introduced later. It’s exciting to see Google taking the initiative to enhance the function, and it’s also helpful to have PC support for it. In February, Quick Share will be the new option for Android users.

With AirDrop available for iPhones, Macs, iPads, and all other Apple devices, Apple consumers are spoiled. It’s about time Android users saw features like these, which will increase their motivation to stay on the platform instead of switching to iOS.
