Today, Bose is releasing a brand-new set of earphones that are intended to be used continuously. The Ultra Open Earbuds, with their clip-on design that doesn’t even sit in your ear, represent a completely new experience in music listening.

With their distinctive design, the new Bose Ultra Open Earbuds clip into your ear rather than being pressed in. Its cuff design simply fits onto your outer ear, doing away with the typical silicone or memory foam ear tips. It appears to give a more comfortable fit for extended use and takes a very different approach than anything else that has been seen recently.

Even the most comfy earphones will eventually cause you to feel a little better, which is why Bose is doing away with the customary designs completely. Rather of totally shutting out the outside world, the earbuds are made to assist you in staying aware of it. Although Bose offers many solutions for more immersive listening experiences, the company is aiming to expand with a set of buds that are not at all isolating like the standard ANC-backed alternatives.

The goal here is all-day wear, and Bose is meeting that goal with 7.5 hours of playback at a time. That gets you through the most of a workday, though it’s not quite enough for a whole day. The brand’s Immersive Audio setting will reduce it to 4.5 hours of listening in one sitting. That is, assuming you are actually paying attention to anything. You can keep the earbuds in your ears all day, even when you’re not listening to music or making calls, thanks to their 48-hour standby battery life. An further 19.5 hours can be obtained from the charging case.

Initially, the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds were a fun joint venture with the fashion and lifestyle brand Kith. However, you can now purchase them. The earbuds are currently $299 both directly from Bose and on Amazon. Black and White are the two designs that are available at launch.

Naturally, there are some trade-offs at $299, which makes these a touch less appealing than other options at the same price range. Currently, the stock case does not support wireless charging or multipoint connectivity.

already seen earbuds with an identical open focus. Sony introduced LinkBuds in 2022 with the same use case in mind. Sony’s substitute adopted a distinct strategy to enable you to perceive your environment, utilizing a ring-shaped speaker that organically blended sound with the music emanating from the earphones. Still, those were in-ear headphones. That is completely being abandoned by Bose with the Ultra Open Earbuds.

Rather than being just another pair of earbuds, these seem a lot more like an extension of the Bose Frames. When you’re listening to something, normal earbuds should be in your ear; when not, they should be placed back in the charging case. On the other hand, the Ultra Open is made specifically to be fastened onto your ears at all times. The improved form-factor and extended battery life of the Bose newest contribute to its remarkable status as a novel wearable technology device.
