With an advertised 0-60 mph pace of 1.99 seconds, the Tesla Model S Plaid can apply a tremendous amount of power to our delicate human bodies. Tesla recently unveiled new sport seats and stated that they are fitted on all Model S Plaids manufactured since the beginning of April in an effort to help mitigate some of those extremes and improve the car’s handling on the racetrack.

The more strongly bolstered sport seats have more solid support and retain creature comforts, despite your intuition telling you that softer seats would be preferable for such intense performance. The chairs’ 12-way power adjustment is still present, and Tesla still installs the heating and ventilation. Additionally, they have a performance suede covering on them that reduces weight and improves traction while cornering aggressively.

For the expensive Plaid, upgraded seats at no extra cost is a nice improvement. Before any of Tesla’s many and pricey options are added, the starting price is approximately $90,000. The carmaker charges an additional $1,500 for colors other than black, even though the base price is expensive. The inside costs $2,000 more in white and cream hues.

To acquire Full Self-Driving Capability or Enhanced Autopilot for your Plaid, you will need to pay an additional $6,000 or $12,000. In addition, the outrageous yoke steering wheel adds $1,000 to the $4,500 cost of the 21-inch wheel option. If that’s too expensive for you, the “regular” Model S is still more than capable of getting you into trouble, with a 3.1-second 0-60 time starting at about $75,000.

In all fairness, the top-of-the-line Model S is an excellent value for the money when it comes to performance. In addition to its breathtaking acceleration, the car can reach 155 mph in 9.23 seconds and generate a whopping 1,020 horsepower from its three electric motors. A carbon fiber lip spoiler, high-temperature brake pads, torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, and a reliable 320-mile range estimate are also included.
