Honda has returned the hybrid powertrain to its North American range after a ten-year hiatus with the introduction of the redesigned 2025 Civic in hatchback and sedan body styles. The 2.0-liter gasoline engine combined with two electric motors to generate a combined 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque powers the new Civic Hybrid, which is available in Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid trims. This makes the Civic Hybrid the most potent Civic version outside of the Type R.

With its precise suspension tuning and specially designed springs and dampers, the hybrid drivetrain achieves approximately 50 mpg, outpacing the previous 1.5-liter turbo model in acceleration. Although Honda has not yet released particular specs, the company predicts that sales of the hybrid vehicles will make up over 40% of Civic sales.

The 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated LX and Sport variants, which are ICE-only and have 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque, are also part of the 2025 Civic portfolio. There is no mention of a manual transmission option, but all versions include a CVT.

In addition, the 2025 Honda Civic will hit American dealerships in June, first as a sedan and then as a hatchback later in the summer. When the 2018 Civic Hybrid goes on sale, the firm will reveal the exact pricing, but it should start under $30,000.

Visually, the 2025 Civic has a more aggressive front end that was influenced by the Civic RS prototype displayed at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon. On hybrid trim levels, body-colored garnish surrounds the headlights and the front splitter. The Sport Touring Hybrid boasts machine-finished 18-inch wheels and four new exterior color options, while the sedan form also includes dark-tinted taillights.

With a few small changes, such the addition of USB-C ports throughout the lineup and a gray interior option available only on the hybrid, the Civic’s interior retains most of its prior appearance. With wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a bigger 9-inch infotainment display with Google integrated is a feature of the premium Sport Touring Hybrid model.
