With with one swipe, you can effortlessly go from a conventional chat to a Google Meet video call—a new feature that Google has been seen testing out in the Phone app.

According to Android Police, a small number of users are noticing a new video call chip in the Phone app while on a standard call. Above the keyboard, speaker, mute, and other settings, there is a new button.

A Google Meet video call can be started with the person you are conversing with if you tap that chip. Switching is far more seamless than it was previously, even though their phone continues to ring.

This implies that Google Meet is attempting to expand its role beyond that of a commercial tool. Meet appears to want to play a larger role in your regular mobile conversations with this proposed feature in the Phone app.

iPhone users had things easy for a while because FaceTime was directly in their dialer. Android users may soon be able to experience it as well, since video calling is being smoothly incorporated into the Phone app.

Tapping the chip will take you to a screen proposing that you invite the person you’re attempting to call to join Google Meet for video chat if they don’t have the Meet app installed.

According to Android Police, this feature has been observed by some users on versions 125.0.613053162-publicbeta-pixel2023 and 124.0.608164421-publicbeta. Given that it appears across various app versions, it appears that this functionality may be a server-side modification.

This feature has only been available on Pixel phones thus far. However, since the Google Phone app isn’t exclusive, it’s possible that it will eventually appear on other platforms.

This new technique isn’t available to everyone just now. Although it appears to be headed in that direction, it may take some time to get to everyone.
